Washington Licensee Renewal Requirements

  • Total Hours: 30
  • Mandatory/Core: 3
  • Elective: 27
  • Renewal Cycle: 2 years

Minimum of 30 hours of approved real estate education every 2 years. Must include 3 hours of prescribed core curriculum. Remaining 27 credits can be any approved elective credits. All of our courses and packages are approved WA CE courses.

New mandatory education on Fair Housing Coming Soon
News Release from the Washington Dept of Licensing

Substitute Senate Bill 5378 requires education on Fair Housing for Real Estate Brokers and Managing Brokers for new licensees and renewals. The new law goes into effect on June 1, 2022. The DOL will allow Licensees until June 1, 2023, to take the Fair Housing 6-hour course. This provides a full year to sign up and complete the Washington Real Estate Fair Housing (6hr) course.

Washington First Time Renewal Requirements

  • Mandatory/Core: 63
  • Elective: 27
  • Renewal Cycle: N/A

Minimum of 90 hours of approved real estate education first time. Must include:

  • 30-hour Advanced Practices Course
  • 30-hour Real Estate Law Course
  • 30 hours of approved continuing education, including a 3-hour Core Course

Although we do not have the 30-hour Advanced Practices Course and the 30-hour Real Estate Law Course, you can get your 30 hours of CE here.

Receiving Credit for Completed Courses

Washington is an audit state, meaning neither licensees nor education schools send notice of course completions to the Department of Licensing; rather, the DOL requires that licensees are able to provide proof of course completions in the event they are audited.

NOTE: Each time you complete a course on the CBT website, you will receive a courtesy email to validate notice of your completion.

Regulation of Online CE Courses

The Department of Licensing requires that online providers incorporate timers to help ensure that it takes the same amount of time to go through courses as the number of hours for which they are certified. For this reason we have incorporated a timing mechanism to ensure that a minimum seat time is spent in each course (equal to 50 minutes per credit hour). For example, a 3-hour course will be open and active for no less than 150 minutes. Final exams are not required for electives but are required on Core and therefore are in the Core course only.
